In audio the narrator reads every word at the speed you set, and the skip button jumps thirty seconds at a time into scenes you can't see coming. That's why content notes matter more for listeners than for readers. If a trigger is a hard no for you, check the notes before you buy, not in chapter twenty.
The second thing is the cast. Most of the genre alternates the heroine's and the hero's point of view, and audio producers handle that in one of two ways. A duet gives each lead their own narrator, so the obsessive hero's chapters come in a man's voice, first person, right in your ear. A single narrator voices both of them, which puts a sliver of distance between you and him. Neither is better across the board. Duets make menace land; a solo voice can make the heaviest captive books easier to finish. Each pick below says which one you're getting.

The duet splits Hook and Wendy between two voices, which suits a book where half the fun is how badly each misreads the other. Nobody gets locked in a room here; the darkness is swagger and blood.
