A man ties a thin black mask over his eyes on the night of a full moon. Across the border, a girl is waiting for her father to come and kiss her goodnight, the way he always does. He isn't coming. That's how The Heart of the Beast: The Alpha's Pawn opens, and the prologue tells you the plan before the heroine knows there is one.
We don't host this serial, and we couldn't confirm who wrote it or which app first published it. Everything on this page comes from the opening chapter, which a reading app shares publicly, and from listings. Where something isn't confirmed, it's marked.
Meet the cast
Ramon Wayne
Alpha of the Bloodmoon pack. His pack is at war with the Silverpaws, and his idea for ending it without more bloodshed is to take the enemy Alpha's daughter and make demands. He goes in masked.
Sonia
Only daughter of the Silverpaws Alpha. Ramon thinks she's a spoiled princess. She sneaks food and water to her father's prisoners and steals his money to share in the slave quarters.
Alpha Fenris
Tender with Sonia, cruel to the rest of his pack, by her own description. Started the war "on a whim," in her words. Has only missed her goodnight once before: the day her mother died.
Seven brothers
Out fighting their father's war. Ramon is counting on them and Fenris to fold fast once she's gone.
Freya
Sonia's maid and best friend, a friendship Sonia hides because her father would banish Freya for it. She arrives with gossip about a Bloodmoon soldier in the garden.
What Ramon gets wrong
Ramon's whole plan rests on Sonia being the most protected, least useful person in her father's house. The reader knows better within two pages. She's the one person in that house undoing her father's cruelty in secret. So the kidnapping starts with a lopsided secret: we know who she is, and her captor doesn't.
That's why this captor setup works better than most. In a lot of kidnap romances the heroine has to prove she's more than leverage. Here she already is, and the tension is how long it takes him to notice. It also explains the title. A pawn is the piece that can become a queen if it gets far enough across the board. We can't promise that's where it ends, but it's hard to miss the hint.
If the enemy's-daughter angle is the draw, it shows up all over the enemies-to-lovers hub, and the werewolf romance hub collects the pack-war side.

Facts, and one mix-up
An aggregator lists 265 chapters, ongoing, with no author name other than a website. We found no official author credit. Separately, some question-and-answer pages online describe a book with this title about a fallen heiress named Valeria and an Alpha called Draaven Ventura. We found no chapter text that matches that plot. The opening chapter we read is Sonia and Ramon's, and that's the book this page covers.

Questions people search
Is The Heart of the Beast: The Alpha's Pawn free to read?
Its opening chapter is shared free through a reading app's share links, and full copies circulate on unofficial mirror sites. We couldn't confirm which app first published it or what it charges after the free chapters. It is not on NanoReads.
How many chapters does The Heart of the Beast: The Alpha's Pawn have?
One aggregator lists 265 chapters and marks it ongoing. We couldn't check that against an official listing, so treat the number as approximate.
Are Sonia and Ramon fated mates?
Chapter one doesn't say. It sets Ramon up as a kidnapper with a political plan, not a man who has found his mate. Whether a mate bond comes into it later is something we couldn't verify.
