Why "beta" is the clever word in the title
Most wolf serials put an Alpha in the title and let the heroine climb toward him. This one is built differently, and the ranks tell you how.

The title is having a joke at the pack's expense. She picks the men a rank-obsessed pack would call the lesser choice, and the princess reveal means she was never theirs to rank. The revenge doesn't need her to beat Nico at anything. It needs everyone to learn who she was. Her comeback as a Squad Captain, sent to stop his Alpha ceremony, is the practical half of that. If you've read The Rejected Mate or His Rejected Mate's Revenge, you know the usual shape: the heroine climbs until she outranks him. Here the rank was hers the whole time.
The thirty-year wait matters too. The twins were already grown men waiting for a mate when Dallas was born, so the listing implies a real age gap, even if lycan lifespans soften it.
