I went looking for this book because of the word "substitute." Half my search history that week was contract brides and arranged brides, and I assumed this was one more with a crown on the end. It isn't. I'd read three chapters on the wrong assumption before the listing set me straight, so this page starts with the premise as the platform states it, then a table so you don't repeat my mistake.

From Substitute To Queen by Hannah Moore is a werewolf serial, and the "substitute" isn't a bride. Sable Crawford has spent three years as Alpha Darrell Hawthorne's girlfriend, supporting him emotionally and financially, while he kept up a relationship with his ex, Camila Ross. On the day he's meant to mark Sable as his Luna, Camila comes back. Sable finds them together and overhears Darrell describe her as merely "useful" and "obedient." So she leaves, and the second half of the title starts: Sable has been posing as an orphan, but she's the daughter of Alpha Rodrigo Crawford, and she ran to dodge an arranged marriage to Lycan King Caelan Blackwood. She stops running and accepts it. Caelan is nine years older, knew her as a child, and, per the tags, is her fated mate.
So: substitute girlfriend for the wrong man, arranged bride to the right one, revenge on the first from the throne the second gives her. All of that is from the NovelFlow listing; we haven't read the ending and won't describe it. It's a wolf book, filed here under marriage of convenience because the arranged bond is what searchers want; the werewolf hub has the pack politics.

An arranged bride is wronged by a system; a substitute is wronged by a person who looked at her every day for three years and saw a placeholder. That's why Sable's leaving lands harder than most arranged-marriage openings, and why the book needs a Lycan King rather than a nice guy to balance it: only a bigger position cancels three years of being nobody's first choice.
