Angela Gabriel has deep personal roots in Hāmākua, and has spent years researching and interviewing elders to document the vanishing memories and stories of her Portuguese ancestors. Her intentions are to preserve the rich cultural tapestry of her Portuguese ancestry for generations to come. Her work bridges the gap between academic history and personal memoir, offering readers an intimate look at the sacrifices made by her ancestors. When she isn't tracing lineage or exploring historical sites, Angela enjoys painting and baking Portuguese bread. Portuguese Pioneer Families of Hāmākua is her tribute to the resilient spirit of her ancestors who paved the way for future generations.
